New Moon Event

New Moon came to theaters on Nov. 20th. What were you doing? I was at the New Moon event put on by Events by Alice. It was so much fun! There were look-alikes, costume contests, and replicas of the characters' cars. My daughter was able to have her hair done at "Alice's Salon" and have her picture taken at Volterra, Italy. There were games with fun prizes and music by the Twilight Music Girls. TMG is now my favorite group, I listen to their 'La Tua Cantata' cd all the time. Sorry the pic of the Edward look-alike is fuzzy.

I had a booth there for Scrapbooking Tales. I got to meet a lot of great people. Now I can't wait until the movie comes out on dvd! But until then, here is one of the scrapbook pages I made just for the occasion: New Moon Event page

Living Forever

"When you can live forever, what do you live for?"

Unfortunately, I'm not a vampire. I'm a human and I won't live forever. But I can live on in the memories of my children, grandchildren, and so on. How can I live on for my great-great-grandchildren? They won't ever know me or have their own memories of me. However, if they have my scrapbooks they can get to know me. They can see what I looked like, both as a child and as an adult. They can see the kinds of things I did. If I journal well, they will know what I was thinking.

The only issue with this is how to keep my scrapbooks in good condition for that long? I looked at a scrapbook my greatgrandma made and the newspaper clippings were yellowed and some of the pictures were cracking - it was already showing it's age! I looked around scrapbooking stores and found out that the plain tape and other products that I was using were totally not helping me to preserve these memories for generations to come. I began using acid-free and lignin-free archival quality products in my scrapbook.

So now my scrapbooks may not live on forever, but they'll sure last a whole lot longer!

Memory like a sieve

"Don't worry. You're human - your memory is no more than a sieve." - Edward Cullen

Edward said this to Bella when he was leaving her at the beginning of New Moon. I found out just how true this was when I was looking through my early scrapbooks. I was looking at a picture of one of my dance groups. My arm was around one of the girls and they had obviously been a friend of mine - but I couldn't remember her name! I racked my brain for days and even called my mom to see if she remembered, but to no avail.

This made me realize the importance of journaling. From then on, I labeled everything in my scrapbook with at least the date and the people involved. I have been glad that I did this on many occasions when I have forgotten a name or date and I could look it up in my scrapbook.

But journaling doesn't have to be just the names and dates. For example, if you were scrapbooking a page about your best friend you could journal your favorite memories with them, things you admire about them, or list their favorite things. This kind of journaling can add interest to the page as well as helping you remember.

Journaling is such an important part of my scrapbooks now that I have created an entire line of journaling pages for my scrapbooking store. These include "I'm Team Edward because..." and "Stephanie Meyer has inspired me..." Check it out here: Journaling Example.

Just the beginning...

Hi! I'm Janae and this is my first blog ever! I'm really excited to be able to share my favorite things with you - scrapbooking and Twilight. I plan to post to this blog about once a week on all kinds of topics, from scrapbooking products and techniques to Twilight fansites, fanfiction, events, and merchandise. I hope you enjoy reading my 'Tale'.

I got into scrapbooking about 15 years ago. My first attempts at pages were pretty sad. I used plain tape (yikes!) and stuck a few of my school certificates on some construction paper. Acid-free? Archival quality? I had never heard of anything like that. My pages had no journaling or embelishments at all. One thing about scrapbooking this way - I could get a lot of pages done in a short amount of time!

At least this kept some of my memories from getting wrinkled, torn, water damaged, or thrown away...but it was just the beginning.
